What Do We Do?

At Hinman CEOs, we’re all about turning big ideas into real companies. If you’re an undergraduate with a passion for technology and an idea for an app or software startup, this is your chance to bring it to life. You’ll dive deep into business model development in the fall, followed by prototyping and building your MVP in the spring. With hands-on coaching, seed funding, and a network of like-minded peers, we’ll guide you every step of the way.

Who Should Apply?

If you’re a University of Maryland undergraduate with a vision for a app- or software-based startup and a drive to launch it by May 2025, Hinman CEOs is where you belong. We’re especially excited to work with teams of two to three students, ideally with at least one person ready to take on the challenge of building the app or software. If you’ve got the passion, we’ve got the support to help you succeed.

What's the Commitment?

You’ll invest about 10 hours a week in this journey during each 8-week fall and spring session. Most of your time will be spent working independently with your team on customer discovery, refining your business model, and developing your product. Once a week, we’ll come together for a one-hour in-person session every Wednesday at 5 PM, where we’ll share insights, troubleshoot challenges, and push each other forward.

What's in It for You?

• Coaching. Our program is built on active, personalized coaching. From group sessions to one-on-one guidance, you’ll have access to the expertise you need to move your startup forward.
• Seed Funding. Successfully complete the fall program, and you’ll receive $2,500 per team to fuel your product development and marketing efforts in the spring. Need more funding? We’ll guide you through the fundraising process.
• Networking. Become part of the Hinman CEOs family, and you’ll gain access to a powerful network of 700+ alumni. We’ll help you connect with those who’ve been in your shoes and can offer valuable advice and support.

• Individuals or teams of up to three UMD undergraduates are invited to apply. Don’t miss your chance!
• Applications are due by September 20, 2024. The fall session runs from September 25, 2024, to November 20, 2024.
• Successfully complete the fall program, and you’ll be eligible to join the spring session focused on product development. The spring session will start in February and conclude in May.
